A man fell from his room on the third floor of a building in the Thalang district of Phuket province on Tuesday while trying to flee from police.

Drug suspect Yusuf Ronmarn, 28, broke his left leg after falling from the building in Ban Lipon village in Tambon Sri Sunthon at 7.20pm.

He was rushed to the Thalang district hospital and was placed under police watch.

Police said they had received a tip-off that Yusuf had stored kratom leaves in his room but when they went to check the room, the suspect locked his door and tried to escape via the room’s balcony and fell down.

Police allegedly found 10 kilograms of kratom leaves in his room.

Under Thai law, possession of kratom leaves is illegal.
