Yom River floods downtown Sukhothai

Yom River floods downtown Sukhothai

Sukhothai’s downtown business area was inundated late Monday night when the Yom River overflowed, topping a sandbag embankment.

Sukhothai Governor Khunpiti Kaewsalubsri said the water level in the river reached 7.49 metres, the highest this year, in the heart of Muang district, and flooding extended about a kilometre along the western bank.
The district and municipal offices were sitting in 20 to 80 centimetres of water.
Civilian volunteers and Border Patrol police stacked sandbags higher and water pumps were installed in a bid to drain off the floodwater.
Khunpit was at the scene at 8.23am on Tuesday directing drainage operations.
