Engineering student arrested for possession after crash

A Sakhon Nakhon-based third-year electrical engineering student was arrested in Bangkok’s Wang Thong Lang district on Thursday morning after police found 191 kilograms of dried marijuana in a car he had been riding in after it was involved in an accident.

The driver of the car fled the scene of the crash prior to police arriving and has not yet been caught, said Chokchai superintendent Pol Colonel Supol Khamchu.
Yala native Modissin Masem, 23, was arrested at the accident scene near the mouth of Soi Lat Phrao 55/2 at 6.30am after his classmate, identified only as “Ahat”, had fled the scene.
The students’ Toyota Altis had ran a red light and crashed into a Mazda sedan.
Police found the marijuana in black plastic bags stashed behind the Toyota’s driver’s seat, front compartment and trunk.
Modissin said he had no idea that the car carried marijuana as he had been invited to accompany Ahat in a trip to the South to deliver unspecified “goods”. A customer in the South was supposed to pay both of them a fee for the trip, he said.
Police initially charged Modissin with possession of narcotics with intent to sell and were searching for the driver.
