Nokia 3310 3G to launch in Thailand in October

Nokia 3310 3G to launch in Thailand in October

Nokia has confirmed it will launch a 3G version of the iconic Nokia 3310 mobile phone in Thailand.

HMD Global, which holds the rights to the Nokia brand name, confirmed that the updated version of the Nokia 3310 will be available in Thailand from mid-October and will cost Bt1,790.

News that the Nokia 3310 would launch in Thailand leaked earlier this week when it was revealed the 3G version of the handset would be showcased at the Thailand Mobile Expo.

In February, HMD Global released a 2.5G version of the Nokia 3310. However, at the time the company said that the phone would not be released in Thailand, due to the fact that it would only support 2G networks.

Thailand, like many countries, is in the process of winding down its 2G network infrastructure in favour of 3G, high-speed 4G and eventually 5G.

But the release of a 3G version means the Nokia 3310 can now be used in Thailand.

The new 3G version comes in a choice of four colours: charcoal, azure blue, warm red and yellow.

HMD Global says the new 3310 has six hours of talk time and up to 27 days of standby time.

There are no apps, fingerprint scanner or facial recognition and it has only a 2MP rear-facing camera.

However, it does include the classic mobile game Snake which was made popular on the original version of the mobile phone which first launched in the early 2000s.
