Flooding in Mae Sai-Tachilek becoming chronic

Communities along the Myanmar border are inundated after the Sai River overflowed on Tuesday afternoon.

Parts of the border market in Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district and nearby communities are flooded, as is the Tha Lor Market in Myanmar.
Repeated floods in the area have drawn a promise from Tin Win Shwe, governor of the Myanmar border town of Tachilek, to travel to the capital, Naypyidaw, to seek long-term solutions on Friday.
He has also assigned Tachilek municipal officials and engineers to study the matter and propose ways for battling problems that arise in both the dry and rainy seasons.
