Clothing vendors in Chiang Rai’s Muang district said winter clothes have begun to sell well after the mercury in the northern province dropped 10 to 15 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning.

Chiang Rai residents were seen dressed in colourful winter clothes in the morning as the Chiang Rai Meteorological Office reported that the temperature had dropped to 15.2 degrees Celsius at the weather station in Muang district.

Clothes vendors at the main market in Muang district confirmed that business had picked up when the chill set in.

Chiang Rai governor Narongsak Osotthanakorn said he had received reports that the temperature on the mountaintops had dropped to about 10 C.

The governor said he would instruct tambon chiefs and village heads to warn villagers to be careful if they lit forest fires to keep warm.
