Pipavin Sodprasert, Thailand country manager for Ant Financial Services Group, which runs Alipay, noted that China-Thailand tourism cooperation has been “thriving and making great contributions to economic and social development”.
“China has always been Thailand’s largest source of tourists, and in 2017, a new record of 9.5 million has been reached,” he said. “Alipay will ensure that the ‘mobile wallet’ enhances their shopping experiences and become a one-stop online marketplace for them.”
“We aim to increase greater exposure for Thai merchants and provide an efficient marketing platform that serves as the bridge connecting both Thai merchants and Chinese users wherever they are based while working closely with our local partners to localise Alipay’s experience of driving smart lifestyle campaigns to best meet the needs of the different users.”
In Bangkok, Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery, Siam Center, the Emporium, EmQuartier and Bluport are offering Alipay users discounts of up to 50 per cent on selected products.
The same reduction is offered by clothing brands LaLaMa and Nara by NaRaYa and all 7-Eleven outlets across Thailand.
