A man was found dead behind the wheel of his SUV on the inbound Bang Na-Trat highway on Thursday morning, police said.

Pol Captain Chanachai Phuraj, deputy inspector of Chachoengsao’s Bang Pakong Police Station, was alerted at 8.30am that a man had been spotted unconscious inside an SUV stopped in the rightmost lane of the Bang Na-Trat highway at kilometre marker 37.

When police arrived at the scene, the car’s engine was on but the driver, who was collapsed against the wheel, did not respond to questions.

Rescuers who accompanied police broke a window and opened the driver’s door to find that the man was dead, although his body was still warm.

He was identified as Nawarat Pongsiri, 51, a resident of Bang Pakong. His body showed no trace of injuries and his car did not appear to have been in an accident. Police found hypertension medicine in the car.

His body was sent for an autopsy at Police Hospital.
