Aged angler drowns in fishing pond

An angler, 70, drowned in a fishing pond in Nakhon Pathom province on Friday after he fell while to trying prevent his fishing rod from being pulled into the pond.

Police said the body of Preecha Lertloipanyachai, 71, was found by scuba divers after a five-hour combing of the bed of the Sampathuan Fishing Pond in Moo 4 village in Tambon Sampathuan in Nakhon Chaisri district.
The pond stretches over 100 rai and its deepest parts are about seven metres deep.
The manager of the fishing pond, Chatree Sompong, alerted Nakhon Chaisri Police Station after Preecha disappeared from his fishing spot where he was last seen at 8am on Friday. The manager looked around at several spots but did not find Preecha so he decided to seek police help.
When the manager checked footage from a security camera at the spot, he found Preecha’s fishing rod was being pulled into the pond and in trying to prevent it Preecha had fallen into the water.
After seeing the footage, Preecha’s daughter, Sutthasinee Lawanwisut, 38, said she had no suspicions about the cause of his death and it was also clear that he had not committed suicide.
Preecha checked into the fishing pond, which is also a resort, at 4pm on Thursday and started fishing at 8am. He had driven his brand new Toyota Yaris to the resort.
