A fisherman drowned while fishing in an irrigation canal in Ang Thong’s Pho Thong district on Thursday.

Scuba divers took about 20 minutes to find the body of Thanayos Jitnom, 44, at the bottom of the canal in Moo 4 village in Tambon Nong Mae Kai at 8.50pm.

The man’s two daughters sought police help at 8.30pm after finding his sandals and a bag for carrying Thanayos’ fishing net on the canal’s bank.

Divers found his body entangled in the net.

The daughters said Thanayos normally left home in the morning to catch fish and returned home at 2pm, but when he had not been seen by evening, they went looking for him and found the sandals.

The two girls, primary and secondary students, said their father caught fish to sell to send them to school. Their mother died three years ago.
