Residents of Takuapa district in Phang Nga on Monday caught and tied up a gunman they believed had just shot and wounded two local fishermen.

They delivered suspected hitman Banjong Chaisawad, 50, to police, bound with rope in a foetal position.

Ban Namkem Police were told that Banjong and an accomplice had appeared on a motorcycle and Banjong shot Sudkhet Samranrat, 39, and Sorapong Khamsawang, 33, who were fishing from a raft.

Both were critically injured and were taken to Takuapa Hospital.

Witnesses rushed to catch Banjong as soon as he shot the first man in the stomach. He fell in the water with his gun but was pulled out and tied up.

His .38 pistol was recovered from the water and found to have four rounds bullets.

Banjong was taken to the police station but refused to answer questions.

The accomplice remains at large.
