Fire-ravaged school appeals for donations

Fire-ravaged school appeals for donations

A school head is appealing for help after fire destroyed its main building earlier this month.

Wilaiwan Nirutikhun, Director of Ban Dongkaen School in Maha Sarakham's Yang Si Surat district, says donations are urgently needed before the start of the new semester on May 14.
Ban Dongkaen lost its main building in a fire on April 3 and Wilaiwan says money is needed for the construction of a semi-permanent building and repairs to its other, 44-year-old dilapidated building, so pupils have classrooms to use when they return to school.

The school was in process of applying for state funds to build a permanent building to replace the 38-year-old 12-classroom building that was lost in the fire, Wilaiwan said.
So far the school has managed to raise Bt300,000 from donors but it was still insufficient.
The school has 92 pupils, from kindergarten age to Prathom 6 level, and requires at least seven classrooms.

The school planned to build a semi-permanent building with three classrooms while the other existing building undergoes repairs to its four rooms, she said.
It has just received donations of student desks and chairs from another school but it still far short of being able to provide classes.
