A Myanmar national has been arrested in Ranong province while trying to smuggle about one kilogram of crystal methamphetamine into Thailand.

Authorities said the man took a ferry from Myanmar to Ranong, bringing along a bag containing the illicit drug. A kilogram of crystal meth, also known as “ice”, could fetch up to Bt1 million in the market.

Soldiers searched the man after they saw him acting suspiciously. After his arrest, the Myanmar suspect told Thai authorities that he was told to smuggle the drug and deliver it to an agent in Phuket province. He said he was told that this would cover the cost of his travel to Thailand and a job-placement fee.
