Beach vendors raided on Koh Racha

Beach vendors raided on Koh Racha

Umbrellas and other beach vendors’ products have been seized as part of beach management enforcement at Patok Bay on Koh Racha Yai, south of Phuket.

Six vendors were charged with breaking the law by renting umbrellas and mats, and selling other items on the beach area. Umbrellas, mats, floating devices, snorkelling masks, surfboards, waterproof phone bags and swimsuits were seized at the scene.
However, after checking 50 boats parked along the beachfront, beach management officials didn’t find any of them anchored in the prohibited area. They also failed to find any tour companies that were allowing prohibited sea-walking activities.

Koh Racha is one of 33 restricted areas, according to the Phuket Beach Management policy of 2015.
Another nine beaches are allowed to have a 10 per cent area with umbrellas and beach lounges, as well as vendors and masseurs. One beach, Surin Beach, has a total prohibition on vendors, masseurs, umbrellas and lounges.
