Police detained two drug suspects at Ayutthaya Hospital early on Friday shortly after their pickup truck crashed, revealing drugs inside.

Samart Darapha, 41, and his sister, Rajit Darapha, 38, were arrested and detained at the hospital pending their recovery from injuries.

The Muang Ayutthaya police station was alerted to an accident on the Bangkok-bound Asia highway in Tambon Klong Suan Plu of Muang district.

Samart was driving, with his passenger sister stuck inside the pickup after they crashed into a power pole.

While rescuers were trying to free the sister, the brother was seen to be searching for something.

As workers prepared to haul the pickup from the accident scene, they spotted a plastic bag wrapped inside paper and covered by black adhesive tape, and alerted police.

Officers found 6,019 methamphetamine pills and 144.61 grams of crystal meth inside.
