New Andaman ferry routes proposed

It is being called the “Andaman ring”, new proposed routes connecting Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi with a modern fleet of ferries which the authorities say will cut journey times and help cater for expanding tourism in the region.

The harbour authorities are proposing six new routes to connect islands and ports. 
Most of the new ferries will be able to carry vehicles which will be a further enticement to use the new services.
A meeting was held yesterday (Wednesday) between the government, private sector and potential ferry operators.
Tenders have been sought by June 15 and a decision is due to be made by August 31.
The main route proposed connects Phuket and Krabi airports. The ship will be capable of carrying 300 people and take one hour.
Other routes proposed include a car ferry from Ao Por, Phuket to Chong Lat, Phang Nga to Tha Len, Krabi.
A car ferry is proposed between Chong Lat, Koh Yaw Yai, Ma Noh, Koh Yaw Noi and Phang Nga, which is subject to review after the consultation process. 
A car ferry was planned from Ban Hua Hin, Koh Klang Lanta, Ban Klong Mak (Lanta Noi) to Krabi
Another is a car ferry to Ao Thong Lang Koh Lanta, Koh Hang, Koh Poo and Phang Nga.
A car ferry is planned from Amphoe Kao, Koh Lanta Yai to Koh Por Krabi.
And a ferry only for foot passengers was planned from Sala Dan Koh Lanta to Ao Por on Phuket.
