A thief has stolen a sword that was part of a statue of Phuket’s Heroines in a temple in Thalang.

A Facebook user, Prasong Trairat, posted a photograph on his personal page on Sunday with a message reading, “The sword of the grandmothers [reference to the heroines’ name by locals] disappeared last night. The thief is not aware of his sin.”

The photo shows a picture of the two heroines – Thao Thep Krasattri and Thao Si Sunthon, or Ya Mook Ya Jan – memorialised in a statue at Muang Gomarapat Temple, or Wat Muang, in Thalang.

The Facebook user was previously a local politician in Thalang.

He and locals are searching for the thief, which they believe to be a local child living nearby.
