Latest : Najib pleads not guilty

PUTRAJAYA: Najib Razak is expected to face several charges for committing offences under two Acts, sources said.

Earlier Wednesday (July 4), Najib left the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters here for the Jalan Duta Courts Complex.

 

A red Proton Inspira believed to be ferrying the former prime minister was seen leaving the MACC building at 7.37am.

The prosecution team, which is led by Attorney General Tommy Thomas, includes Datuk Mohamad Hanafiah Zakaria, Manoj Kurup, Datuk Suhaimi Ibrahim, Datuk Umar Saifuddin Jaafar, Datuk Ishak Mohd Yusoff, Donald Joseph Franklin, Muhammad Saifuddin Hashim Musaimi, Budiman Lutfi Mohamed, Sulaiman Kho Kheng Fuei, Mohd Ashrof Adrin Kamarul and Muhammad Izzat Fauzan.

The defence team, lead by Tan Sri Dr Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, includes Harvinderjit Singh, Datuk R. Krishnan, Farhan Read, Rahmat Hazlan, Muhammad Farhan Shafee and Syahirah Hanapiah.

10.46am: All three CBT charges read out. Najib pleads not guilty.

10.40am: Najib pleads not guilty to a charge under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

10.39am: Case transferred to High Court. Charges being read out in front of judge High Court judge Justice Mohd Sofian Abd Razak.

10.17am: Defence and prosecution teams are in. Prosecution team, led by Attorney General Tommy Thomas, includes Datuk Mohamad Hanafiah Zakaria, Manoj Kurup, Datuk Suhaimi Ibrahim, Datuk Umar Saifuddin Jaafar, Datuk Ishak Mohd Yusoff, Donald Joseph Franklin, Muhammad Saifuddin Hashim Musaimi, Budiman Lutfi Mohamed, Sulaiman Kho Kheng Fuei, Mohd Ashrof Adrin Kamarul and Muhammad Izzat Fauzan. The defence team lead by Tan Sri Dr Muhammad Shafee Abdullah included lawyers Harvinderjit Singh, Datuk R. Krishnan, Farhan Read, Rahmat Hazlan, Muhammad Farhan Shafee and Syahirah Hanapiah.

10.16am: Najib leaves courtroom.

10.14am: Nooryana Najwa and her husband Daniyar Nazarbayev, and Norashman are seen in the courtroom.

9.50am: Though no plea was recorded, Najib nods to show he understood the charges read out to him. He appears grim, with his jaw drawn tight.

9.37am: Najib charged with three counts of criminal breach of trust and one count of using his position for gratification.

9.15am: Charges are being read out.

9.05am: Court proceedings underway. Najib is dressed in blue suit and white shirt.

9am: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Batu Pahat Umno strongman Datuk Puad Zakarshi are seen at KL High Court.

9.04am: Tan Sri Dr Muhammad Shafee Abdullah appears in court with Najib's defence team.

8.30am: Police are allowing media into the courtroom. Two rows of benches that can seat around 25 reporters are provided. The two front rows of the public gallery are reserved for Najib's friends and family.

8.25am: Najib arrives at Jalan Duta Courts complex.

8.05am: More than a dozen police personnel are stationed outside the Sessions Court where Najib is expected to be charged. They instruct reporters to register a representative per publisher, due to limited seats in the courtroom.

6.55am: Court gates open to allow a convoy of police vehicles to enter. Police officers from the canine unit are also seen inspecting the car park and courts complex, while officers use metal detectors on nearby plant pots and garbage bins.
