NLA sets aside Bt12.7bn emergency fund

The National Legislative Assembly on Friday passed a bill to transfer Bt12.73 billion from the fiscal 2018 budget to emergency funds for the poor and development projects under the 20-year national strategy.

The NLA passed the bill in three straight readings with 183 votes and sent it back to the prime minister to forward it for a royal command for its enactment.
The bill seeks to transfer Bt10 billion from the 2018 budget of the government to set up an emergency fund for projects under the national strategies and reform plans.
The bill also seeks a transfer of Bt2.73 billion from the 2018 budget for setting up the Pracharat Fund for the grassroots economy that would be in turn used to provide help to low-income people who earn less than Bt100,000 a year.
The bill states in its principles that the government has to set up the emergency fund so it could allocate money to government agencies that implement development projects under the national strategy and reform plans, promptly so the budget could be allocated and spent within the current fiscal year that ends in September.
