Aged husband hurt, wife killed while driving sidecar to Phitsanulok temple

An aged couple driving their sidecar to a temple were hit by a pickup truck at a U-turn in Phitsanulok on Tuesday morning, killing the wife and severely injuring the husband.

Police said the accident happened at 8am on the Wang Thong-Sak Lek road in Ban Din Thong village in Tambon Din Thong of Wang Thong district.
The wife, Jad Timthong, 67, died from a broken neck and also suffered broken arms. Her husband, Win Thuauypun, 73, suffered a severe head wound and a broken right leg.
The pickup driver, Pongsak Sudapuang, 39, claimed that the motorcycle with sidecar blocked his way when it suddenly changed from the left to the right lane as it approached a U-turn. He could not stop his pickup in time, he said.
Relatives of the couple said they liked to make merit at the temple near their home every morning. The husband has poor eyesight and so had his wife drive from the sidecar.
