Troops discover half-tonne of kratom leaves at Malaysia border
Troops seized 570 kilograms of kratom leaves in Songkhla province on the Thai-Malaysia border on Monday evening.
Troops patrolling the border found the kratom (mitragyna speciosa) in a deserted hut in Ban Bang Na village in Tambon Samnak Taew in Sadao district.
The drug was handed over to police.
The authorities believe the leaves were smuggled from Malaysia, where they sell at the price of Bt150 per kilogram, to profit from a Bt500/kg hike on the Thai side.
A motorcycle was also found at the hut and police will summon its owner for questioning.
