Mae Hong Son man urges public to donate food to help poor villagers

A man from Mae Hong Son’s Sop Moei district has used social media to urge the public to send food to help poor villagers, especially an elderly couple with a disabled son, in a hillside community.

Somchai Sirithepsongklod, whose Facebook account is Somchai Somchai, made a post on Sunday that he had by chance found a poor village, Ban Mae Pong, in the district’s Tambon Sop Moei.
He learned of the plight of the villagers after an elderly man, whose back is severely curved due to age, had walked to his house, appearing very tired, and asked for food to take home.
Somchai said he thought the man would take food for his wife, so he followed him to the village, where he found that he was begging for food there for his disabled son.
Both the father and mother are aged and frail, he added.
Somchai said he had looked around the village and found that most of the inhabitants were poor and barely had enough food to live on, so he decided to organise food donations to help the community.
In his Facebook post, he said he had also discovered that at another house in the village, a disabled man with frail limbs, whom he identified as Songkram Saenruan, 42, was living alone.
He therefore decided to organise another donation to build a new toilet that would make Songkram’s life a little bit more convenient, he explained.
Details of how to make donations can be found at his Somchai Somchai Facebook page.
