A first-year student, who has embarked on a 500km Bangkok-Phrae run to raise funds for poor children in Phrae, reached Phichit on Wednesday morning.

Thammanoon Boonsai from Phrae's Sung Men district started his run on October 3. He hopes to reach Phrae on October 25.

Thammanoon said he would like to raise cash to help underprivileged children in Phrae because of his humble origins. But now he has the chance to study digital media and movies at Bangkok University.

He finished secondary school in the district and got a scholarship to study in Bangkok for four years, free of charge.

Thammanoon said the hot weather had forced him to walk some of the time.

So far he has raised Bt130,000 in donations.
