Chiang Mai village chief ‘forged signatures’ to push through Thai Niyom project

Chiang Mai village chief ‘forged signatures’ to push through Thai Niyom project

A village head in Chiang Mai province has been accused of forging the signatures of several locals to implement a Bt200,000 project using the government budget.

“We hope police will investigate our village head,” Ponpoj Pantusart said on Wednesday as he and other locals lodged a complaint with the San Kamphaeng Police Station.
According to Ponpoj, Saneh Kantha-in, who serves as the village head of Ban Ton Doo in San Kamphaeng district, forged the signatures of at least 30 residents to push ahead a project to improve the waterworks of the village.
The project was implemented under a Bt200,000 budget, as part of the government’s Thai Niyom scheme.
Saneh claimed a committee had been set up to study the waterworks-improvement project, but some locals had been listed as committee members without their knowledge.
“I did not know I was a committee member until the village head showed up and told me to sign a paper for reimbursement,” Supaporn Jaimuk said. “So, I decided to lodge a complaint.”
She said that she found other irregularities while looking through the list of participants at meetings held to endorse the project.
“Some names belong to people who are bedridden, while some belong to those who have actually moved out to work in other provinces or are overseas,” Supaporn said.
San Kamphaeng Police Station’s superintendent Pol Colonel Chuwit Kongkaew said Saneh will undergo criminal proceedings if he is found to have forged signatures or documents.
“We will investigate further,” he said.
