Army called in to prevent wild boar meat smuggling

The Livestock Development Department on Friday called on the Fourth Army to step up security along the border with Malaysia to prevent domestic wild boar meat smuggling.

Jirasak Pipatpongsophon, deputy director general of the department, made the request during a meeting with pig raisers in Songkhla.
The meeting was held at the Buri Sriphu Hotel in Hat Yai to explain measures to prevent an outbreak of African swine fever at pig farms in Thailand.
Jirasak said the disease had spread in Malaysia where wild boar meat was exported to Thailand.
Jirasak also urged pig farmers to cooperate with the provincial administration and the southern Army to alert officials if they spot attempts to smuggle wild boar meat across the border.
