Port Authority, EXAT join hands for expressway extension

Port Authority, EXAT join hands for expressway extension

The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) has agreed to co-finance the construction of an extension from Bang Na expressway to the Klong Toey port to reduce congestion caused by trucks on roads near the port.

Somsak Hommuang, director-general of the Harbour Department who is the ex-officio chairman of the PAT’s board of directors, said on Monday that the board voted last week to work with the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) to build a 2km extension.
Somsak said the PAT board agreed to have the PAT finance the expense of hiring an advisory firm to study the construction and environment study for the extension from the port to the Bang Na-Art Narong expressway.
The study would take about a year.
Somsak said the PAT would sign a memorandum of understanding with the EXAT for the construction. The PAT also agreed to shoulder the construction of the expressway extension in the area of the port and the EXAT would pay for the remaining cost.
Somsak said the special extension could help reduce congestion in the area, as trucks would be able to drive to the port and out of the port to the expressway directly without having to exit to a normal road first.
