Lampang teenager drowns after jumping into Wang River

A teenage boy drowned on Thursday after he jumped into the Wang River from the bridge which is the venue for the Long Sapao Chao Wiang Lakorn celebration in Muang district.

The body of Nattapol Suphachua, 18, was found and retrieved by scuba divers about six hours after he was seen jumping from the middle of the Orange Bridge at 4am.
The bridge is the venue for the Long Sapao Chao Wiang Lakorn or the floating of barges by Lampang people, which is held on the same night as the Loy Krathong.
The body was sent to Lampang Hospital for an autopsy.
Nattapol's grandfather, Suphan Hakrua, 59, said the teenager was a 12th grade student who became depressed after he failed twice in entrance exams for the Police Academy.
