Officers will investigate further with a view to identifying his accomplices, said Pattani’s police chief, Pol Maj-General Piyawat Chalermsri.
The arrest of Usman Laeha, a resident of Tambon Luboh Yeerai who has been accused of dealing in drugs and weapons, is a major move because police had been monitoring his movements for a long time until an informant tipped them off about the transportation of drugs and war weapons into the tambon, Piyawat explained.
The police chief added that when officers, acting on the tip-off, went to arrest Usman and confiscate a batch of meth pills, the suspect confessed to having in his possession a larger amount of drugs and war weapons, which officers also later retrieved.
Piyawat said the three firearms would be sent for testing as to whether any of them were linked to any violent crime or national security case in the deep South.
He made the comments as he led officers to inspect the items that had been seized from Usman, which also included a pickup truck and a sedan car, seven bank account books and eight vehicle registration books.
