Prawit orders armed forces to help southern flood victims

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has ordered the armed forces to provide urgent assistance to more than 15,000 families in the southern provinces following severe flooding in the area.

Defence Ministry spokesman Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanit said Prawit had issued an urgent order to all the armed forces to send troops and heavy machinery to help the flood victims.
Koncheep said more than 15,000 families were hit by floods when a strong northeast monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand and the South unleashed heavy rains in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Trang, and Satun as well as Thap Sakae district in Prachuap Khiri Khan.
Kongcheep added that the armed forces were on constant standby to organise timely evacuations of the bed-ridden, elderly and children when flash flooding occurs.
