A fisherman discovered the body of a toddler drowned in a large pond in Muang Chanthaburi on Tuesday evening.

The girl, believed to be around two years old, has not yet been identified. A doctor estimated she’d been dead for six or seven hours.

Prem Chaiyaporn, 36, a Lao migrant worker, was fishing in the pond in Moo 1, Tambon Tha Chang, at 7pm when he spotted the body and alerted police.

He initially thought it was a plastic doll floating face down, only realising it was a child when he prodded it with a stick.

The body was sent to Phra Pokklao Hospital for autopsy.
