Myanmar man shot after he allegedly attacked policeman with knife

A Myanmar man was shot and injured after he allegedly attacked a policeman with a knife on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said Saw Luimia, 45, attacked a policeman at a road checkpoint in Tambon Mae Ngow of Mae Hong Son's Khun Yuam district at about 2.20pm.

The policeman fired one shot at the man, hitting him in the hip.

The policeman was slightly injured and the Myanmar man was taken to Khun Yuam Hospital.

The man, who was apparently high on drug, will be charged with harming an official on duty, police said.
