Govt agrees to stop holding migrant minors

Government agencies have signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday to stop holding migrants under 18 in government detention centres, according to the Foreign Ministry.

Heads of seven agencies that signed the agreement included the heads of the Royal Thai Police, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labour.
The signing took place after Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha pledged to stop the practice as Thailand is obliged by the Convention on the Rights of the Child since September 2017.
