SSI rises on back of strong final quarter of 2018

The Startup Sentiment Index (SSI) hit 61.75 in the fourth quarter of 2018, a net increase over the previous quarter, the Government Savings Bank’s Economy Research Center reported on Monday.

The bank’s president and chief executive officer Chatchai Phayuhanavichai noted the rise was not unexpected as a survey conducted of 430 start-ups around the country had indicated that the fourth quarter would be better than the third due to an increase in purchasing power during the high season for travel.
That confidence was continuing into the first quarter of this year as the country moves towards the general election and consumers enjoy better purchasing power.
However, the bank cautioned that start-ups need to be concerned about cost management, which is still high compared to more established businesses, Chatchai added.
