Songkhla Zoo on Thursday organised a symbolic "wedding" ceremony of a pair of hornbills to mark Valentine's Day and Thailand's Hornbill Conservation Day on Wednesday.

Deputy provincial governor Ampol Pongsuwan presided over the ceremony to unite the 15-year-old male hornbill named Thara, which last year was moved to the zoo from Bangkok's now-closed Dusit Zoo, with its mate Rada.
Southern Thailand is home to 13 species of some 60 types of hornbills across Africa and Asia.
Hornbills are facing increasing threats of extinction despite their critical ecological roles.
