Free taxis, motorcycles for people to reach coronation site

The Land Transport Department will arrange free travel from 33 parking points around Bangkok to Sanam Luang on Sunday for people to take part in the Royal Coronation rites, thanks to voluntary services by taxi drivers and motorcyclists.

Pirapol Thavornsupacharoen, director-general of the department, said the free services will be available from 27 parking spots around the capital and six parking spots of the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority.
The voluntary service by some taxi drivers and taxi motorcyclists will drop people off at seven spots near the areas where the Royal Coronation rites will take place. They are Ban Managasila, Ban Phitsanulok, Nang Loeng Turf Course, under the Rama VIII bridge, under the Phra Pinklao bridge, under the Memorial bridge and at the Thepsirin Temple.
The taxi drivers and motorcyclists will wear yellow shirts. The taxis will have a sticker announcing the free service on the windshield while the voluntary motorcyclists will wear a badge offering the free service, Pirapol added.
