Residents in Maha Sarakham woke up to a scene of destruction on Wednesday morning after a thunderstorm tore through villages in the Northeast province. About 120 houses were damaged in heavy rain and gales that bombarded Muang district on Tuesday night.

District chief Anupong Khamphukaew said the storm hit nine villages spread across the tambon of Kaeng Lerng Charn, Kerng and Lad Pattna.

He said Lad Pattana was the hardest hit with three houses practically destroyed, adding that local authorities are assessing the situation in order to provide urgent help to affected villagers.
