Wife killed, husband injured by lightning in Bueng Kan

A woman was killed and her husband injured when lightning struck the hut they were sheltering in at a rubber plantation in northeastern Bueng Kan province on Tuesday evening.

The local Seka district police station was alerted of the incident at 4.30pm.
The woman was identified as Pornthip Saensuk, 59, a villager of Ban Khok Krasae village in Tambon Ban Tong.
Her husband, Keela Saensuk, 67, told police that they had gone to tend vegetables in their rubber plantation, and when it started to rain they took shelter in a makeshift hut nearby.
Keela said the lightning struck his wife while she was standing about a metre away from him. After regaining consciousness, he crawled to the main road to call for help. His wife was taken to the district hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The woman had suffered burns from the high voltage strike, police said.
