14 smuggled Myanmar migrants rescued, trafficking suspect arrested in Songkhla

Immigration police in Songkhla on Wednesday arrested an alleged Myanmar human trafficker and rescued 14 smuggled Myanmar people from a rented house in Bang Klam district.

Police arrested Aung Chanai, 29, not far from the rented house on the Asia highway in Moo 4 village in Tambon Tha Chang where he allegedly kept the 14 undocumented Myanmar migrants, who are five women and nine men.
The 14 were detained inside the house, which was locked from the outside, pending being smuggled across the border to Malaysia.
The migrants appeared tired and starving, said officials, who provided them with boxed meals.
The migrants are to be deported, while Aung will face legal actions, said police.
