Thai arrested in Songkhla for allegedly smuggling seven undocumented Myanmar migrants

Police officers and Army troops on Monday intercepted a van that was smuggling seven undocumented Myanmar migrants from the border in Kanchanaburi to Hat Yai district in Songkhla, officials announced at a press conference on Tuesday.

The van driver was arrested and identified as Kiattisak Phetmool, 24, from Ayutthaya.
The vehicle was intercepted by immigration and border patrol police and soldiers in Songkhla following a tip-off that a van was smuggling undocumented migrants to a broker in Hat Yai, who would later smuggle them across the border to Malaysia.
The officials found four men and three women from Myanmar in the van, none of them with travel documents.
The seven said they had paid a broker in Myanmar Bt20,000 each for him to arrange their employment in Malaysia.
After being taken to sneak across the border in Kanchanaburi, they were driven to Songkhla on Sunday.
