Welfare cards can now be used to pay for bus tickets at agents in some provinces

Some bus-ticket agents in at least two provinces can now accept payment by government-issued welfare cards.

Transport Co Ltd, a state enterprise, recently revealed that it has distributed electronic data capture (EDC) devices to 22 agents through the bus stations in Yasothon and Nakhon Phanom provinces.
The agents have been trained on how to accept payments via welfare cards.
The government has issued welfare cards to more than 11 million low-income earners in the country. These cards entitle their holders to many benefits, including Bt500 worth of bus fare per month.
Bus tickets paid for through welfare cards are non-refundable.
