Lao woman arrested after drugs raid on her home

A Lao woman was arrested in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Tha Sala district on Thursday morning for allegedly being involved in a drug trafficking ring.

Tadam Wongnuphan, 34, who carries a Lao passport, was arrested by police and Interior Ministry officials after they raided a house in Moo 9 village in Tambon Sa Kaew.
The officials raided the house following tips that an alleged major drug trafficker, Chalorsak Luaboon, was hiding there. But Chalorsak managed to escape, leaving the Lao woman to be arrested.
The officials found some drugs but Tadam claimed they belonged to Chalorsak whom she started a relationship with just 10 days ago.
Phantakarn Ratnarong, assistant district chief of the Tha Sala district, said the authorities have been monitoring the Lao woman and Chalorsak for a while.
Phantakarn said the the woman entered Thailand and returned to Laos often.
He said the officials would investigate whether the Lao woman had any connection with former pop star Prissana or Priscilla “Pookie” Gemelli, who was arrested with her husband on Monday night for allegedly selling 5.17 kilograms of ketamine to a Taiwanese man.
