Tawee led the FTI through a turbulent economic period in the wake of the Asian financial crisis, serving as president from 1998 to 2001. He worked hard to convince manufacturers to adopt more advanced technologies to increase production efficiency, and played a key role in pushing the government to amend laws that stood in the way of growth and business development.
In another important initiative, Tawee set up provincial industrial organisations in a bid to develop upcountry areas. He also introduced a limit of two two-year terms for the federation's presidency, which had previously been an open-ended position.
Tawee received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (1st-class honours) from Chulalongkorn University.
Funeral rites will be arranged in Wat That Thong's Sala 5.
