NTT Communications (Thailand) Co has begun operating a branch office in Laos, named the NTT Communications Vientiane Representative Office.

The new office initially is advising multinational companies on the use of efficient and reliable information and communications technology for production, retail and sales operations in Laos. It also provides business-related information.

Eventually, the office will offer its own high-quality solutions in collaboration with local carriers and the Laotian government, after receiving the necessary licensing.

The Japanese parent company says these solutions will be backed by NTT Com’s successful track record of providing ICT solutions, including for international and local networks, data centres, Internet, system integration and security, to customers in other parts of the Greater Mekong Subregion.

Headed by Tsuyoshi Kawashima, concurrently president of NTT Communications (Thailand) and the Phnom Penh branch manager, this is the first branch to be launched in Laos by a Japanese ICT carrier.

Global manufacturers are increasingly looking to Laos as a new production base because of its low electricity and labour costs. The country’s economy is supported by the East-West Economic Corridor linking Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Burma, and also links with China.
Expansion of the Asian regional market is stimulating the corporate demand for unified, high-quality ICT services for offices in multiple countries.

The addition of the Vientiane office expands NTT Com’s network of subsidiaries and offices to 78 cities in 30 countries/regions.

NTT Communications provides a broad range of global networks, management solutions and IT services to customers worldwide. The company offers security, hosting, voice, data and Internet-protocol services, as well as expertise in managed networks and leadership in IPv6 transit technology.

NTT Communications’ extensive infrastructure includes Arcstar Global IP-VPN and Global e-VLAN, as well as a Tier 1 IP backbone reaching more than 150 countries in partnership with major Internet service providers, and secure data centres in Asia, North America and Europe.
NTT Com is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, one of the world’s largest telecoms, with listings on the Tokyo, London and New York stock exchanges.
