Capital market's roadmap to win back investment

The Federation of Capital Market Associations has come up with a roadmap to restore investor confidence, following the worst floods in decades.

After a discussion with seven capital-market associations, FeTCO chairman Paiboon Nalinthrangkurn said that the road map will cover three phases, from short to long terms.
In the short term, to restore confidence and ensure business resumption as soon as possible, the government should implement the corporate income tax cut but delay minimum wage hike. The Bank of Thailand should also cut the policy rate by 50 basis points to boost consumption and investment.
In the medium term, the capital market should be deployed for rehabilitation-oriented fund raising. Infrastructure funds should be set up to raise funds from domestic and foreign investors.
In the long term, a clear water management plan must be in place, to ensure that the disaster will not reoccur. Industrial estates should be located in safe areas.
The road map will be presented to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Paiboon said.
"FeTCO is extremely concerned with the flood impacts on business operators and the economy in the long run. The government should quickly evaluate the impacts on macro-economy and the country's fiscal position. The figures should be available to investors. The concrete flood-prevention plan should also be completed within 3 months, so that the business sector can plot their business plans accordingly," he said.
