Joint gas-drilling deal with Burma agreed

Thailand and Burma have agreed to drill for natural gas in the Andaman Sea by 2013.
Foreign Minister Surapong Towichukchaikul said yesterday after bilateral talks with Burma that the two countries shared the same ideas about jointly developing the Zawtika Block M9 gas field by 2013.
However, the Block M3 gas field is being developed with PTT and PTT Exploration and Production. The output will be used in producing chemical products.
The joint exploration will lead to more cooperation between the two countries in setting up a chemical plant in Burma, he said.
There are also both inland and offshore oilfields in Burma, which have come under negotiations.

Car levy revenue down
Government revenue from vehicle taxes was hard hit last month.
Excise taxes collected from carmakers missed the target by 54.6 per cent, as Honda’s factory was damaged and other carmakers suspended production because of the floods.
Overall government revenue last month fell slightly short of budget largely because of the massive flooding, Somchai Sujjapongse, director-general of the Fiscal Policy Office, said yesterday.
Government revenue last month totalled Bt137.84 billion, or 0.7 per cent below forecast, he said. Value-added taxes were also 6 per cent below target.
