Smart Green plans three plants

Smart Green Energy Co will set up three solar power plants worth a combined Bt12.1 billion, generating 79 megawatts, by next year.

Chief executive officer Deeanek Boonsima said yesterday that the company, which was founded last year, would set up the first plant in Chaiyaphum province with 27MW capacity on 700 rai (112 hectares). This photovoltaic power plant will cost Bt4.6 billion. It is scheduled to feed power to the system by December.
Bangkok Bank has lent Bt3.7 billion for the project.
The plant will enjoy the adder rate of Bt8 per unit and is expected to break even within eight or nine years. The project has also earned tax support from the Board of Investment. It has signed up Bangkok Solar Power and DuPont to construct the plant jointly.
The second plant will be set up in Roi Et province at a cost of Bt2.5 billion, with a capacity of 12MW. Investment on the project is expected this year.
The third plant will be in Khon Kaen, at a cost of Bt5 billion, having a capacity of 40MW. The project is expected to commence next year.
The company expects the other two projects will also get financial support from Bangkok Bank.
The bank’s senior executive vice president, Chansak Fuangfu, said it had a policy to support the alternative-energy business. It has advanced loans totalling more than Bt10 billion per year for such businesses.
He added that Smart Green had technology, capital, and strong intentions to develop the projects.
