Sutipol Taweechaikarn, a member of the NBTC, said yesterday that the unit would help reduce the grievances involving telecom services that go to court.
The watchdog has a backlog of about 4,000 consumer complaints over telecom services.
The unit would focus on mediating disputes between consumers and telecom operators before including those between operators.
The Courts of Justice would cooperate in staff training and knowledge exchange related to telecom issues. The court system will also collaborate in drafting the NBTC’s procedures and guidelines for alternative dispute resolution of telecom cases.
The establishment of the unit is part of the NBTC’s preparation for possible disputes with state enterprises in the future, when the watchdog will have to take back their frequencies for reallocation, Sutipol said.
