Egat believes gas price will force hike

Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) governor Sutat Patmasiriwat envisages an increase of 20-30 satang per unit in fuel tariff (FT) for the May-August round, after the spike in natural-gas prices.
He said the current FT rate was based on a crude-oil price of US$100 per barrel, but the current price is nearly $120. The price of natural gas in the second half will certainly increase, because of the six-month price lag. FT is based on the cost of three fuels – natural gas, which accounts for 60 per cent of the fuel used to generate electricity, diesel, and bunker oil.
MK revenue down
MK Real Estate Development announced revenue in the final quarter of last year of Bt231.33 million, down 41.77 per cent from the same period in 2010 because of the flood, president Chuan Tangmatitham said.
This had an impact on the company’s full-year revenue, which recorded only Bt1.6 billion, a drop of 35 per cent from 2010. Net profit also dropped from Bt536.60 million in 2010 to Bt234.02 million.

Berkshire here
Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway is pushing into the Thai reinsurance market and selling coverage at higher rates, taking advantage of the retreat of competitors after they suffered losses from last year’s floods. The presence of the US conglomerate in the Thai market was confirmed by several sources in the insurance industry, including one who said Berkshire began doing business here in December. – The Nation
