Villagers' suit against gold miner dismissed

The Administrative Court of Phitsanulok yesterday dismissed a complaint against Akara Mining Co that its gold operation damaged the environment and villagers’ health.
The court ordered that the company’s concession not be withdrawn.
Akara Mining had been sued by villagers in Phichit, where its gold-mining operation is located.
The court in cooperation with Mahidol University took a year to look for environmental impacts. It found that the operation had not affected the environment or the health of villagers.
