Srettha denies rumoured nomination as THAI chief

Srettha Thavisin, president and CEO of Sansiri Plc, has flatly denied the rumour that he would run for Thai Airways International's presidency.

"Regarding the rumour... Never. I will never be THAI president," he told The Nation.

Following the premature termination of employment contract of incumbent president Piyasvasti Amranand on Monday, there was a rumour that the government would nominate its representative as the replacement. Srettha was rumoured to be a prime candidate.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Kittiratt Na-Ranong also denied the rumour.

Political intervention is expected in Piyasvasti's dismissal. After pressure from media and the labour union, THAI Chairman Ampon Kittiampon will host a press conference tomorrow, to reveal the actual reasons.

Srettha said that with about 24 per cent of shares in Sansiri, he never wants to leave the property development company.

Under his reign, the company is now in quest to become the biggest developer. This year, it sets the goal to boost sale revenue to Bt35 billion.
